    Private equity owned- Global business marketing firm

    Client Opportunity or Challenge:

    • The Client is a European private equity backed company; new investors have an aggressive growth plan in mind. Within 9 months of investment, the Client acquired 3 companies in the US- its first US investments.  Since growth via acquisition was not part of the core experience of our Client, our European Affiliate, Greene 6 Partners, based in Paris was engaged to support post merger integration and assimilation.  Since the diligence period was short, many risk areas were not well understood and required post acquisition remediation.
    • Most of the existing management team was leaving the company because of the relocation of  company headquarters, hence there was a time sensitivity to dealing with issues
    • We advised on a wide range of issues including
    Organization structure IT Risk
    Severance Tax structure
    Recruiting new employees and leaders Marketing
    Cash management and forecasting Finance and accounting
    Performance Management Outsourcing of key functions
    Real Estate and Leases  

    Role:

    Consultant and advisor

    Outcomes or Benefit:

    • Created due diligence and acquisition assimilation guide book for client to use in subsequent transactions
    • Devised strategy and criteria for Leasing decisions
    • Executed risk assessment as well as IT transition plan
    • Established structure for revised performance reporting including data structures
    • Provided criteria and assessed outsourcing proposals for key functions
    • Project managed issues resolution
    • Mentored interim staff
    • Served as surrogate general manager

    Private Faith Based University

    Client Opportunity or Challenge:

    • The client has been experiencing eroding revenues and escalating costs, which were not clearly and consistently acknowledged and discussed with Board of Trustees
    • Client terminated several leaders including the President, COO/CFO
    • Client required a quick assessment of organization capacity to perform, along with recommendations to get back on track
    • Client required revised budget for upcoming fiscal year, and it had to be developed in a collaborative way
    • Client required revised debt structure to accommodate changes in business environment

    Role:

    Interim COO/CFO

    Outcomes or Benefit:

    • Served as interim COO and CFO and instituted many remediative processes
    • Provided Board with strategic analysis of the University within the first three weeks to set the case and path for immediate change
    • Devised and launched collaborative budget process resulting in a reduction of operating budget by approximately 15%
    • Restructured existing debt arrangements
    • Identified significant risk in the Information technology area
    • Established capital monitoring for new and significant classroom building on campus
    • Evaluated sale of excess real estate assets
    • Mothballed several dormitories to reduce operating costs
    • Advised interim and incoming president on strategic and urgent matters and built and executed plan to deal with urgent maters
    • Restructured Finance and accounting organization

    Client Opportunity or Challenge:

    Client faced a myriad of challenges including but not limited to:

    • Weak financial planning and controls capabilities
    • Paucity of operational and management information
    • Bank wanted to foreclose on debt
    • Cost structure did not match declining revenue structure
    • Funding changes due to change in government regulation
    • Weak Billing practices and collections

    Role:

    Interim CFO and Chief Restructuring Officer

    Outcomes or Benefit:

    • Negotiated and extended debt agreements
    • Improved financial reporting with emphasis on operational reporting to discern profitable and non-profitable programs
    • Devised and executed strategies to either align program revenue and costs or to exit certain programs
    • Devised monthly performance management and accountability process to ensure that strategies were effective, being enacted and yielding intended results
    • Renegotiated leases for terminated programs without suit or extraordinary cash requirements for client
    • Agency has sold businesses, cash flow is improving and agency is poised for growth
